Doctor Who Symphony

When I first saw the ad online for the Doctor Who Symphony Spectacular I messaged my friend Kim of Pop Couture right away. The squees of the fangirls were loud. We had to go. We had to get tickets and delve ever deeper into our Doctor Who fandom.

Kim ended up getting tickets for me for Christmas so we were set to go. Set.. but we needed outfits. Or I needed an outfit. I like overdressing for events now. I'm right out of my shell and loving wearing what I want to. So needless to even write that I headed off to my favourite place for amazing clothing Etsy and found Corset Wonderland and her wonderful Tardis Skirt! I ordered it without much hesitation back in January and got it the week before the show!

Super cute, right!? This was everything in the package. Thank-you note, business cards (with discount for next purchase) and cute glittery tissue paper, bow tie (that the seller now sells seperately) and ribbon. All up the skirt cost $110 including shipping BUT Rae was nice enough custom make it bigger for me.

I hope you get the idea of what I looked like on the night. I added a silver fob watch and navy stockings to complete the look. Basically I was a Tardis girl..? I really wish I had got my hair done and had more than 30 minutes to get ready for the night.. but this is what it's like being a parent and having to rely on babysitters and the other parent to be on time.

On the Saturday by 5pm I was already at Southern Cross waiting for Kim to arrive. I met a CUTE redhead named Beccy on the train who was also going and we talked about the special guests and Amy Pond (of course). While waiting I ended up painting my nails to complete my Tardis look.

I used a basic navy blue nail polish and bought some black and white nail pens to write POLICE BOX on my nails. Sadly it wore off by the end of the night because I didn't have a sealant coat over them. SAD but I don't think anyone noticed my nails anyway.

Kim turned up in a cute sequinned tank top and greeted me with "EXTERMINATE!". We headed to the hall on the tram after I gave Kim her Tardis necklace I made her the night before and we walked up the convention centre to find the place. You couldn't miss it! SO MANY FEZS AND BOWTIES!! I was in geek heaven. Many a cute Doctor in tweet jackets and plenty of smiles were sent my way because of my skirt.

The first fez we saw!

We headed inside before 7pm but the place was PACKED! It was great. My first encounter with a true Doctor Who fan was a guy showing me an ID and with me telling Kim that "OMG I think that guy just psychic papered me!". Sadly not many people were dressed up but it made it more fun to spot the Doctor and even a few Daleks!

Dalek girls! By far the most effort put into a costume I saw all night! Their headbands lit up.

The fez was the strongest icon from the show that night. I think they were selling them at the merchandise store (which had sold out of so much stuff by the time we had got there) A Tom Baker scarfed man and his family came up to me in line at the store wanting a photo of my skirt and I shyly accepted and dragged their Doctor daughter into the shot with me. I managed to get a floating Cybermen pen and a program for Kim which was $20 but worth it. Kim and I chatted and laughed with others in line. There was a whole lot of timey wimey wibbly wobbly quotes floating around and it's so fun to quote Doctor Who with others who share the love for the Doctor.
Fez boys VS Dalek Girls!

After that I got tracked down by the earlier Dalek Girls wanting a photo with me. So embarassing because I wanted a shot with them too! The Fez boys (as I called them) chatted and took photos and I snuck away with Kim to find our seats. I got stopped and told how great my skirt was a few times and even sparked up a conversation with two lovely ladies at the bar about geek boys (and how they're probably all over me) and how my outfit was "The best cosplay that isn't even a cosplay".

My view.

The symphony was amazing. It makes you realize how much goes into an episode. The music really makes it complete. So much emotions just hearing certain songs. Amy Pond's and The Madman with the Box especially. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it (except the people next to us were partly 'non clappers') and I also lost my Sonic Screwdriver but had a great night! Murray Gold, the man who composed all the music for EVERY EPISODE of the new Doctor Who, is a genius. Ben Forest, the conductor, was SO CUTE. I'm guessing he was the inspiration for David Tennant's Doctor. He even walked like the Doctor. I wish I could of taken more photos to explain better about the whole show but my phone ran out of battery just as the show started! Head over to Pop Couture to visit Kim, who is sure to have uploaded some video and photos from the show. Including shots of Cybermen, vampire women and Daleks that took over the arena.
